Philosophy

It is my belief that change is a process consisting of two parts. The first is a discovery of patterns and/or habits which are unhealthy or unproductive; the second involves the development of new habits and behaviors that are more adaptive.

Making changes in life is hard to do because all of us tend to fall back into old, familiar patterns. Thus, although we may be unhappy with a relationship or a particular situation, we often get "stuck," resort to strategies or solutions that are not very effective, and fail to recognize other options which may be available.

Therapy can be a helpful way of taking charge of your life and learning new ways to reach your goals. I will work with you to clarify your goals, discover the attitudes and behaviors that are keeping you in a rut, and help you develop your resources and strengths. Not only will you feel better, you will gain the tools and understanding to help you make life changes and resolve issues independently in the future.

Our sessions will be interactive and tailored to meet your specific needs and learning style. We will work together to develop a plan and time frame with which you are comfortable. As I get to know you, I will offer feedback and guidance and suggest activities which you may complete at home.
